Bob Dylan confie son ressenti : "Ce fut un réel privilège de travailler sur cet album. Cela me tenait à coeur depuis longtemps mais je n'ai jamais eu le courage de retravailler ces chansons avec une formation plus simple de seulement 5 musiciens. C'est là, l'exploit que nous avons réalisé. Nous connaissions ces chansons extrêmement bien. Nous avons tout enregistré en live, en une, voire deux prises. Aucun sur-doublage, aucune cabine pour l'enregistrement des voix, aucun casque, aucune piste enregistrée séparément et pour la plus-part, mixées comme elles ont été enregistrées. Pour moi, ce ne sont en aucune façon des reprises. Ces chansons ont déjà été reprises de multiples fois, enterrées d'une certaine manière. Mes musiciens et moi, ensemble, nous les avons déterrées pour les ramener à la lumière du jour."Note de contenu : I'm a fool to want you
